City & Guilds of London Art School offer a range of woodcarving and gilding courses designed to suit students from a wide range of backgrounds, and incredibly, all students can access bursary funding to cover varying portions of the fees. The courses are unique in that the teaching of the traditional craft skills of carving and lettercutting are complemented by the art skills of observational drawing and modelling. All their courses are taught by practicing craftsmen and women ensuring that students leave the course well prepared for professional practice. Others who have completed a woodcarving and gilding course have a great track record at finding work in the heritage sector and setting up their own businesses, so it’s a great way to enhance your career.
